Understanding Diamond Art
Diamond art can be described as a combination of cross stitch and Paint By Numbers. It consists of diamonds made out of polymer resin that act as stickers when you apply them to an adhesive canvas in their corresponding code. Before you start, it's important you understand the terminology associated with this craft.
A drill refers to the diamonds used to create the work. They come in round or square drills. You can have a full drill diamond painting which means the entire canvas is covered with diamonds for a complete look that's similar to mosaic. You can also have a partial drill where only part of the canvas is covered with diamonds to emphasise certain aspects of the image, such as a sparkling sky in Van Gogh's 'Starry Night'.
You'll also come across 5D diamond paintings and 3D diamond paintings. This refers to how many facets the diamonds have on each side and determine how sparkly the end result will be. 3D diamonds have 3 facets on each side for a total of 9 facets, while 5D diamonds have 5 facets on each side for a total of 15 and will ultimately pick up more light for intense depth and shine.
What Instructions Do You Need to Know Before Getting Started?
Understanding the instructions is easy with diamond art. Before you begin, simply decide which diamond colour you want to start with and empty them into the tray provided in our DIY kits. Match the code on the diamond packet to the code on the canvas and use the tweezers to dip the diamonds into glue or wax and carefully place them onto their code. It's as simple as that!

Difference Between Round and Square Diamonds?
A diamond art painting is made using either round or square diamonds.
Square diamonds fit together neatly side-by-side with no gaps between them. They're a preferred choice for larger artworks but can be trickier to place. Round diamonds are easier to apply than square diamonds, making them great for beginners. However, round diamonds will leave a gap between them where the white canvas will show through and the end result won't be as smooth and complete as working with square diamonds.
